Can I do it?
Before I started my travel life, I had an usual life, college days, working and studying. Then I decided it’s time to go, to do something that makes me truly happy – not only things that I must do. I had everything I need, but I wasn’t happy, something was missing.
My life was one BIG routine – work, study, eat, sleep – repeat. It wasn’t a life that I was dreaming about. It wasn’t something that makes me happy on longer roads. I decided it’s time for changes.
After reading a lot of books, watching a lot of movies, dreaming that I’m walking on the same streets of Barcelona, New York and Paris, I knew it – that was it. Traveling is that thing that makes me happy, that makes me keep going.
One day when I came home, I sat down and wrote my bucket list. I put down on the paper all the things I always wanted to do. I started my list in 2013 and I put sometimes something new and adventurous but it’s 50% done. There is no better way form that one when you have an inspiration and some goal to catch. The feeling becomes amazing when you cross something that you always wanted to do.
In all that days, with the same old routine – I was lost. With life like that I can only afford to travel once in 3 months and it would be one week in total maximum. I needed another way.
On my last year of college, I apply for an Erasmus programme (a EU programme allowing students to stay and learn in different countries of EU). I decided that I want to spend more time with locals, not just come, see some city on few hours and go home. I want to live like local people do, explore new culture, places and to have time to do all the things that the country I’m in can offer to me.
The decision was on Malta, a little Mediterranean country – I didn’t regret nothing there. That country and amazing people will treat you like a queen!
Now when I tried both ways of traveling that I was interested in – the feeling is amazing. And that makes me keep going – once when you start, you can’t stop, right?
I’m still traveling once or twice a month – more then before. But I decided that it’s time for a new country. For new exploring for some longer time, for new kind of local living and meeting the culture.
Where I’m going?!
I will keep it for myself for now. The only way to found out for you is to keep following my adventures.
I hope you will enjoy like I do.
What I learned?
Don’t ever – never plan too much! I make plans for next month maximum, trust me – the BEST way ever!
When I was planning my trips for whole year, I never manage them, it was always something why I didn’t go. If you decide today that you’re going – DO IT!! You won’t regret, I’m sure. I love that feeling when I don’t plan where I will go, I just decide about my next destination in that moment when I know I need to go again.
Just take that Goddamn map in your hands and spin the globe! Wherever it takes you – it’s the right for you in that moment!
And for the end – my favourite question that I ask myself and others around me in time of doubt:
IF NOT NOW – WHEN??!
